1/ COMPETITION DATES
 

  1. Applications open: 1 January, 2024.

  2. Applications Close: 23:59 (GMT), 15 March 2024.

  3. Preliminary Round (Video selection): 15-25 March 2024.

  4. Final Round: 6 – 8 May 2024

All participants will receive a participant diploma. The teacher of the prize winners will receive diplomas.

2/ ELIGIBILITY

  1. The Scherzo International Piano Competition is open to pianists of all nationalities.

  2. Prize-winners of 1st places from previous editions of the Scherzo are not eligible to compete at the same age category.

3/ APPLICATIONS

  1. All applications must be submitted online at: https://www.scherzoil.com/

  2. A non-refundable application fee according to the detailed below:
    • Category A,B: 60 USD or EURO equivalent
    • Category C: 70 USD or EURO equivalent
    • Category D: 75 USD or EURO equivalent.

  3. Applicants must submit unedited audio files of a programme according to the repertoire requirements (For details see Repertoire Guidelines).

  4. It is allowed to record separate complete pieces; they can be also from different dates. Video Recordings, which are edited or processed inside complete pieces, will be not accepted to take part.

  5. The camera must be placed on the right side of the instrument and must show the keyboard, the face and hands of the participant during the complete performance.

  6. The Video Recording must have a reasonable video and audio quality (at least 720p) with no background noise.

  7. The video must include the category, the name and the surname of the participant.

  8. The recording should be made on January 1, 2023, at the earliest.

  9. The video files of any Applicant whose application is not complete or in accordance with the rules, will not be heard by the Pre-selection Panel.

  10. By submitting an application online and subsequently participating in the Competition, the Applicant accepts and agrees to abide by all the rules and regulations of the Competition.

4/ BROADCAST & RIGHTS

  1. By registering at the Competition the participant declares that no third party will recognize any copyright and/or other legal rights for video, audio and other materials uploaded or created during the Competition.

  2. All rights for the distribution of audio and video materials of the Competition, including commercial purposes, belong to the Organizer of the Competition.

  3. Participant transfers the rights for the broadcasting and distribution of materials (including the Internet) at no charge, in any territory, for an unlimited period of time to the Organizer of the Competition.

  4. The Organizer of the Competition has the right to broadcast the auditions of the Competition and the final concert on radio, television, the Internet without any additional fee to the participants.

  5. The Organizer of the Competition owns the exclusive right for audio and video recordings of the competitior’s performances, master classes of guest musicians, videos of the concerts held as part of the Competition and their use in advertising and teaching purposes.

5/ PRELIMINARY ROUND (VIDEO SELECTION)

  1. The Pre-Selection Panel will select reserve list of pianists to advance to the Final Round.

  2. Applicants will be informed of the decisions of the Pre-Selection Panel No later than 20 March 2024 by email. The decision of the Pre-Selection Panel is final.

  3. Applicants selected to advance to the Final Round will be required to confirm repertoire details of the Final round. No repertoire changes can be made after 25 April 2024.

Video recording regulation

  1. It is allowed to record separate complete pieces, they can be also from different dates. Video Recordings, which are edited or processed inside complete pieces, will be not accepted to take part.

6/ FINAL ROUND

  1. The Final Round will be held at the Israeli conservatory of music in Tel-Aviv.

  2. The performances of the Final Round are open to the public.

  3. All program pieces must be performed by heart.

  4. In the case the competitor can’t perform in person at the Final Round he will be allowed to send the recorded performance upon an agreement with competition organizers no later than 1 May 2024. The guidance for the Final Round recording will be detailed after the submission to the Final Round.
